Final TSA Security Guidelines For International Flights

In issuing it’s most recent security requirements for international passengers flying to the United States, the TSA narrowed the list of countries subject to enhanced screening measures to 14.  These suspect nations include Afghanistan, Algeria, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

If you are traveling from any of these countries, expect a full body pat down and thorough search of all carry-on items.  These new directives also apply to travel through any of these countries.

For all other international departures to the United States, you should expect enhanced security measures that include random enhanced screening.  With these new directives, the temporary directives that were put in place a week ago will expire.  Expect that some airlines may retain some enhanced security measures on the aircraft, however, the most restrictive of the temporary rules should disappear.

We still recommend limiting carry-on items on all flights.  With enhanced security screening, fewer carry-ons will mean faster and easier security clearance.  Also expect your carry-on liquids to be scrutinized more than ever.  If you can, leave them in checked baggage, use a non-liquid substitute or buy your items at your destination.

Hopefully this will be the last round of directives for a while.  We’ll keep you posted on any changes and clarifications that may arise.
